Wärtsilä’s Cutting-Edge Energy Storage Set to Transform Solar Power in Florida
Tampa Electric Company Partners with Wärtsilä for Enhanced Grid Reliability and Renewable Energy Integration
In a significant leap towards sustainable energy management, Wärtsilä, a pioneering technology group, is set to supply Tampa Electric Company (TECO) with a groundbreaking 15-MW/30-MWh energy storage system. This innovative system, to be co-located with a 25 MW solar plant in Dover, Florida, aims to bolster grid reliability while accommodating the utility’s expanding solar energy portfolio.
The project marks a milestone for TECO, heralding its second utility-scale energy storage facility. As Florida’s leading producer of solar energy per customer, TECO’s integration of energy storage aims to address the intermittency challenges of renewable energy sources, allowing precise control over energy discharge to the grid. The Wärtsilä facility is poised to offer crucial grid services, including resource adequacy, frequency support, and solar energy optimization.
