Expanding Renewable Energy: Kohat Cement Installs 5.34 MW Solar Power Plant
Kohat Cement Company Limited (KOHC) has taken a significant step toward sustainability by installing and commissioning a 5.34 MW on-grid solar power plant at its facility in Kohat. The company announced this development through a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Wednesday.
“We are pleased to announce that the company has successfully installed and commissioned a 5.34 MW on-grid solar power plant at the company’s plant site, Kohat,” stated the official notice. This new installation complements the 10 MW solar power plant already operational at the same location, underscoring the company’s commitment to renewable energy solutions.
Kohat Cement: A Pioneer in Sustainability
Founded in 1980 as the State Cement Company of Pakistan, Kohat Cement has grown to become a leading player in the cement industry. The company was privatized in 1992 and has since expanded its operations, including adopting environmentally friendly energy solutions.

Pakistan is witnessing a growing shift toward renewable energy, particularly solar power, in both the residential and commercial sectors. The affordability and sustainability of solar energy have prompted businesses, including cement manufacturers, to invest heavily in solar projects.

- Lucky Cement, one of the largest cement manufacturers, commissioned a 25 MW captive solar power plant in Karachi in August 2023.
- DG Khan Cement Company Limited (DGKC) installed a 7 MW on-grid solar power plant at its Khairpur site in March 2023.
- Gul Ahmed Textile Mills Limited (GATM), a major textile player, announced the installation of a 17.1 MW rooftop solar plant earlier this year.
These initiatives reflect the industrial sector’s increasing reliance on renewable energy to reduce costs and carbon emissions, aligning with global sustainability goals.
